"Sending care packages to hikers on a thru-hike can be a challenging task. There are logistics to figure out as to where the hiker may be and then there is the worry that what you're sending is not what they need or would be able to carry. I will be providing a list at the bottom of this page of some of my anticipated town stops and estimated arrival dates. I will adjust the list the best I can as I hike, but it is best to email me to let me know you're sending something. If I don't know to ask for the letter/package, I won't get it...again, remember that I have to carry whatever is sent and I already have a full resupply coming to most towns."
Also:
- Many of these locations are rural, so mail should be sent out AT LEAST 2 weeks in advance and, in some places like Kennedy Meadows, up to 4 weeks in advance.
- Pay close attention to the preferred shipping method and the specific address format for each location.
- Please don't send me anything that I will have to carry with me (books, etc) as I won't have space in my pack. The best things to send are food, food, encouraging notes, food, and food.
What to send:
- Keep in mind that my body runs off of carbs and fat. Calorie dense foods are preferred so I can maximize calories while minimizing weight.
- Favorite foods: Cheetos, Juanitas, pringles, pretzels, cookies (my favorite are chocolate chip and oatmeal), candy, dark chocolate, nuts (except peanuts), granola, jerky, salami, tortillas, PROBAR Meal Bars, packets of ketchup or hot sauce, Kraft Mac & Cheese, Knorr Pasta Sides, Kit Kats, Reeses PB Cups, peanut butter filled pretzels (YUM), or just about anything home made.
- Least favorite foods: peanuts, any kind of bar (except the aforementioned PROBAR), oatmeal, pop tarts, and anything too sweet (I'm much more of a savory/salty kind of guy).
**IBecause of some major date changes, I've removed my item start from the blog. Feel free to email me of you'd like to send me a package and I'd be happy to send you a link to my current itenerary.**
